What is colony collapse disorder in bees?

Well, it is a new affliction that causes older foraging bees to blink out and never be seen. The older bees that gather nectar from flowers mysteriously disappear, while young nurse bees slowly starve inside the colony.

There are no dead bees inside the hive or around it. No signs of a virus or fungus. All very strange.

Scientist have no explanation for the awol bees. Suggestions like that the jet stream is touching ground and carrying them away are so far fetched as to be absurd.

First the jet stream at over 300 miles per hour would knock down trees as well as carry off the bees. Also bees disappear slowly, not all at once.

Farmers say that losses are heavy in the fall when bees are gathering food for the winter, but in winter when the bees are inside the hive losses are zero.

It is not chemical sprays as those would kill the birds as well as bugs. It is like the bees simply go out and never come back. They become lost, but you do not see any dead bees in the driveway or the sidewalk.

It seems that everyday it goes higher and higher. Yesterday regular was $3.15/gallon, and today the price shot up to $3.19/gal for reg. The price is on a rocket to the moon. On Jan 4, 2007 - THIS YEAR, it was $1.87 a gallon for regular.

At this rate we will soon see $4/gal for gas.
